I have taught this unit a few times to different classes - Year 3, Year 3/4 and Year 2/3. It can be adapted easily. The book is fabulous and the imaginative/descriptive writing is always superb as the children get a lot from the drama activities. One lesson observation received an Outstanding. I made this after going on an inspiring course about encouraging boys to write. I found out some really interesting things about the pupils attitudes towards writing when I used it.

Some of the ideas are from the excellent Hamilton Trust adapted for a Year 3/4 class. Could be used in other year groups if tweaked.

I taught this unit during our Titanic topic so the children already had lots of ideas/information about the Titanic. Their work was displayed in a local book store to give them a purpose for writing the poems.

Myst Exile is an excellent resource and this is just a few basic ideas of how I've used it in Literacy. I bought the game quite cheaply from Amazon - the children love it!
