A fully resourced SOW for the NEW Alevel specification. Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. This SOW is fully resourced, including powerpoints, homework, assessments and opportunities for differentiation. It has proved very successful with Year 12 students who I used this with and can be adapted for how you would like. A worksheet to accompany the reading or watching of A Christmas Carol. Students fill in the boxes with key details of what happens in each stave to support memory of the plot.

A series of reading comprehension lessons - 26 lessons in total. The lessons were originally created to support students in Year 10/11 who struggle with reading, comprehension specifically. Each lesson focuses upon building the same reading based skills and therefore builds students’ confidence. The gradual introduction of English Language Paper 1 analysis and structure skills are subtly woven into the units also. The extracts used alternate between fiction and non fiction to support with overexposure of GCSE reading material. A template of the original lesson outline is included which details the basis of the worksheets and how they can be adapted.

A document containing worksheets which focus on creating thesis statements for Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls and linking poems together on Power and Conflict poetry.

A 16 page booklet containing lots of possible exam questions on Power and Conflict Poetry. Students have to use the grids to simply plan what poem to compare to and the quotations they would use.

A 40 question one sheet revision quiz on A Christmas Carol. All questions link only to the novella itself. Questions can easily be adapted to make easier/more challenging. Could be used as a revision activity before exams or after the initial read through of the text.

A worksheet that focuses on creating arguments for key characters and who they represent. Students can think of specific key quotations for that character linked to their argument about the character. E.g. Mr Birling - represents greedy, selfish capitalist during Edwardian era - “Lower costs, higher prices”. This worksheet has been proven effective in storing all students’ revision in one place that they can return to.

A table that narrows down all the key quotes in An Inspector Calls to just 21. Students can be very overwhelmed when trying to learn lots and lots of quotes to suit different questions. The 21 quotes I have chosen here should suit any question that comes up on character or theme, so encouraging students to learn these 21 will given them security in confidence when in the exam. Each quote has been chosen for a purpose - whether that is because it fits a particular question, or because it has multiple layers of analysis to draw out. One of the tables is annotated with my notes on - all really detailed analysis that you could teach students so they know exactly what to say about each quote in a lot of detail too.

A creative writing lesson focusing on describing an image inspired by Oliver Twist. This can be used as part of a unit of work during the study of Oliver Twist as a way of assessing creative writing skills. The lesson introduces students to a success criteria of key skills needed in creative writing, followed by students completing a planning sheet around an image of a Victorian slum, then students write up their planned description.
