<p>A 30-lesson unit on the wonderful, adventure story of Asha and the Spirit Bird. Lessons are aimed to be 30-40 minutes long and cover the Year 5/6 curriculum. Children will develop a range of reading skills throughout this unit as they encounter some geography links (India) and RE links (Hinduism) as well.<br /> Includes images in Powerpoint form to accompany the story as you read.</p>

<p>A one week English Plan of biography writing about Nelson Mandela, aimed at Year 5/6. Follows A Long Walk to Freedom: Illustrated Children’s Version by Chris Van Wyk.<br /> Children use skills of ordering events and summarising to create a CV of Nelson Mandela’s life, before writing an emotive diary entry and finishing with an extended piece of writing of his life in the form of a biography.<br /> An apostrophe lesson is also included in this scheme.</p>

<p>Based on the short nature documentary by David Attenborough, this 9-lesson unit for Y5/6 focuses on animal chases, in particular, an edge-of-your-seat chase between an iguana and killer snake.<br /> Children begin by exploring and watching animal chases, before doing some sentence work (Jane Considine style) around using senses, feelings, similes, metaphors, repetition, onomatopoeia and punctuation. Children then plan and write their own imaginary, descriptive animal chase in a similar style where the underdog escapes.<br /> All screenshots to support learning are included.</p>

<p>This 8 lesson English unit on information pages, aimed at Year 5/6, allows children to learn about the Galapagos giant tortoise before researching and making their own information page about the incredible marine iguana.<br /> The unit begins with a whole class reading lesson so children can dive straight into the genre, before doing some sentence work (in a Jane Considine style) that builds on using punctuation in lists, relative clauses, complex sentences and precise verbs. Children then design and write their own information page on the research they’ve done about marine iguanas.</p>

<p>Ideal for Holocaust Day or to accompany a History unit on World War II, children use the images in the Powerpoint as a point of discussion to reflect on how we remember those who have passed away. Activities in this lesson include reflection work on Holocaust memorials from around the world, as well as designing your own Holocaust memorial.</p>

<p>This 6-lesson Computing unit requires the use of Scratch. Aimed at Y5/6, children will learn how to code an animated story about the planets in our Solar System - works well when teaching Earth &amp; Space in Science. Children will learn to use sprites, backdrops, loops, moving and broadcasting.</p>

<p>This Christmas Maths activity gets children thinking about the number of gifts used in the 12 Days of Christmas song. Number pattern links to Pascal’s Triangle are made.</p>

<p>Aimed at Year 5/6, this activity gives children a scenario of being a car dealer and selecting cars for their new showroom. Keeping to a budget, children need to problem solve using mental and written addition and subtraction to maximise the number of cars they can have.<br /> This activity is differentiated.</p>
