This is a resource created for Year 10/ 11, for the AQA Language paper one, question five. It has been created to support students to build their creative writing skills, in order to succeed in a 40 mark question. It is designed to be used over two lessons - the first to go through the work, the second for planning and writing. It could, however, be condensed into one lesson, if you prefer pupils to just work on one paragraph of a response.

The resource includes a PowerPoint with some context, a video, some discussion time and independent tasks, as well as the potential for a plenary. A copy of ‘Valentine’ by Carol Ann Duffy is included, along with a lesson plan and a worksheet. These can be adapted to suit different abilities.

It is designed to develop annotation and analysis skills, as well as encouraging student creativity. It has suggestions for differentiating both up and down in the notes section of the PowerPoint.
