I created this worksheet for my year 8 class (very high ability for their age). This lesson involves learning about the structures of the breathing system (lungs, trachea, ribs, diaphragm, alveoli, bronchi, bronchioles etc.) with the help of labelling a diagram. You can get them to feel their ribs as they breathe in so that they can feel their ribs move up and out and also feel their diaphragm move downwards). I have included the worksheet and a short 1 minute activity in which the students will exercise by running on the spot and applying what they have learned to how and why their breathing rate and volume has changed.

Aimed at year 9 AQA Biology<br /> <br /> In the activity, students are given a poster and asked to work in 3's (for a large group of 30 students - smaller classes can have smaller groups). The information sheet tells the student how the animal is endangered and where it live - info taken from WWF so is reliable. Students are asked to think about which conservation method they would use to save the animals from going extinct. After this, they will each come to the front of the classroom to present their ideas. It is recommended these presentations last no more than 2 minutes in order to keep to the time of a 1 hour lesson and to give the students adequate time to prepare. Please ensure that the students are aware that they will be given praise points/merits/any other acceptable praise for taking part and to keep them focussed.<br /> <br /> This pack contains 11 animal posters and the ppt presentation to go with the lesson.<br /> <br /> For more unruly classes, make sure you choose your own groupings.
