This lesson was taught a few years ago and has always achieved 1’s during lesson Ob, including the lesson OFSTED came in. I use Indian Ink and sticks and have the lights out and use the battery powered tea lights to re-create the lighting from when the monks would have worked on the Lindisfarne Gospels. I have at point also play monastic music dependent on the group. Enjoy!
This is around 6 lessons work, looking at British bank notes (although there are a few new ones now), This unit first involves research on a bank note, and presented work in the form of a fact file and they they have to design their own bank note based on their favorite ‘dead dood’, I have had some amazing work, from their own heroes, one bank note was based on Dick Turpin, one on Rick Mayall. The choices always surprise me.

This was ran as a whole school activity introducing students to look at art and make judgements, enabling students to look at modern art and then be able to start to talk about their opinion and if they like it r not. This could be used as a unit or in the same way. It was also extended by us to get students to come up with their own Turner Prize entry.

This has been ran over the last few years in rotation for an off time table awareness day. All groups rotate through all sessions and end with a street party. The only lesson that is not prepared for this is the food lesson, where the time was spent making the sandwiches eaten during the street part at the end. Student feedback from this was very positive.
Having worked my way through school from technician to TA then to teacher, I found some student needing more classroom support then others, some TA help write out work on white boards, some student who did not need TA support were given it, marking work became a memory game.Which student had help, which needed it and isn’t getting it and which student gets help and doesn’t use it. I created these stickers to help stop the brain ache. Students who get help will get a sticker in their book with the level of help recorded and tracked by the TA.
Over a period time a pattern will develop showing if the student is getting better, worse or does not use the help that are getting. It help redirect TA to those students who are require help more and then be able to show small step progress for those who do not always reach their target grade.
