An EXCEPTIONAL fully resourced Scheme of Work for the new Religious Studies AQA GCSE specification Buddhism: beliefs and teachings, with all GCSE learning objectives covered. The content will also fit the Edexcel and OCR GCSE RS courses, with some adaptations. Over 20 lessons with 151 files included. All lesson resources included: Power Point presentations, handouts, worksheets, mark sheets, exam questions, mini- assessments, end of unit assessment, homework's, extension tasks, unit outline. Lessons are fully differentiated for a mixed ability class (see 'diff', 'higher' or 'lower' on name of documents). Tips: 1) This is very detailed scheme of work, with each topic (e.g 1.4), lasting for approx. 2 hour lessons. It is designed for teaching the GCSE course over 3 hour lessons a week, and beginning in the last half term of Year 9. I have often taught content in detail, with lengthy tasks to study concepts in depth. If you have less time you could shorten these tasks, leave them out or set them for homework - just make sure you check the textbook to see what is essential content. I have also sometimes included extra information which I felt was useful for students to know to help them understand the GCSE Buddhism content better (especially when my students had not covered it in KS3) e.g. Hindu beliefs in life after death and Hindu ascetics. Therefore if you have less time you can either leave these extra bits out (especially if you have covered them at KS3), shorten them or set them for homework - again just make sure you check the textbook to see what is essential content. 2) You will need the AQA Religious Studies A Buddhism Oxford University Press textbook alongside this Scheme of work - there is a picture of it on the first slide of lesson 1.1. 3) You will need Microsoft Excel and SMART Board software for a few of the resources. 4) There are some extra resources needed for one or two lessons (please see presentation slides), such as a water bottle filled with mud (soil), orange robes etc. These are optional and you could still teach the lessons without them - but it does make the lessons more engaging. 5) There is a mini-assessment to be completed after lesson 1.4 (post life of Buddha). It focuses on who to answer 5 mark questions. The end of unit assessment also includes 12 mark questions. 6) Just like the textbook, the lessons do not explicitly teach students why beliefs and teachings are important for Buddhists (12 mark questions). I begin to coach students in this skill for the end of unit assessment for the 12 mark question. The reason I did not cover it in lessons, is because it felt like students needed to learn all of the beliefs and teachings first before being able to evaluate which was the most important for Buddhists. Therefore, personally I will be covering this skill as part of future revision and recaps. I hope you enjoy, and any reviews would be appreciated.
