Substituting into formula crime scene

(86)
Substitution where unknown is not the subject crime scene investigation complete with investigation booklet.

Now with a modified easier version practising substitution into formulae where the unknown is the subject. I've changed the order they meet the formulae and added a page to be written on for examples.

Pie chart lesson

(82)
Starter activity borrowed from Tom Riley http://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/Pie-Charts-Flags-Starter-6225311/ For a lower ability set slowly removing the structure as they make their way through the worksheet, animated with protractor to show how to measure the angle.

Tree diagrams

(53)
Tree diagrams including conditional probability- visuals to show how many sweets are left after I've eaten the first one and go back for another.

Transformations

(24)
Three transformation jigsaws. jigsaw dog is translation with vectors, rotations and reflections (horizontal and vertical only). jigsaw dog challenge is translation with vectors, rotations and reflections (including diagonal lines) with more complex shapes than the first. translations starter will piece together to make a dinosaur I also have a snowman which involves enlargements- just added for christmas

Christmas coordinates

(19)
Christmas activity plotting coordinates to make a picture. Join up the coordinates in each section in the order listed and it should make Santa Claus. Uses all 4 quadrants. Solution attached. Y-axis now altered so you can see the negative signs.

Trigonometry elevation and depression

(26)
Powerpoint for lesson on angles of elevation and depression following the introduction of trig ratios. Please rate if you use it, any suggested improvements welcome.

Reflection, rotation and translation KS4

(12)
Powerpoint showing how to perform each transformation- shows rotation with 'tracing paper&' attached and points sliding along given amounts in translations. Will update when I have a decent starter to go with it. Please rate!
Experimental ProbabilityQuick View

Experimental Probability

(15)
Two experiments: first based on weighted dice (which I made) pupils tally results calculating experimental probabilities after 10 trials and ‘more’ trials. Excel document collects class’ data to compare to individual results. (More trials set up so they can roll the dice at their own pace and probabilities are plotted for the class) Second experiment classic 'car race activity&' sheet is set up so that pupils can carry out the race until one car wins then work out the experimental probability of each then use the sample space diagram to compare the theoretical probabilities.

Decimals and rounding murder mystery

(24)
Pupils need to solve the murder by adding up a shopping list and seeing who's bank balance matches, round to nearest decimal places and significant figures, work out circumference which is &'linked to intelligence...&'; and round to 1 s.f. to perform quick calculations. Quite a lengthy starter to make sure they have the basics for the main activity. I allowed them a calculator from question 3 onwards once they had finished the written calculations and moved on to rounding and significant figures.

Trigonometry- Finding sides, angles and worded problems

(8)
The 'lesson 2' starts with a recap of labelling the sides of a triangle then goes on to calculating sides and angles using the cover up method. I paired this with a few ten ticks exercises.
The other file covers more complex problems involving trigonometry including angles of depression and elevation- I then used the Collins textbook. I have uploaded a file similar to this before but have added an extra example and changed to the cover up method.
Please rate if you use it, and message me if I make a silly mistake so I can correct it!

(17)
Compound rectilinear shapes. Powerpoint has some extra slides on the end which I made but didn't end up using, but didn&'t have the heart to delete in case they came in useful!

Solving trig equations using a CAST diagram

(10)
Recaps where a CAST diagram comes from, relating to the graphs. Then moves onto solving more complex equations using the diagram as this was not the first lesson on solving trig equations.

Transformation picture involving rotations, translations and enlargements (with fractional and negative scale factors)
Makes a snowman.

I have similar pictures for any time of year but this is my first decent attempt at enlargements!

Mistake now corrected…

Area of triangles, parallelograms, kites and trapeziums. With activities for pupils to do to help see where the formulae come from and animations to support their discoveries.

Rotation (and problem solving)

(1)
Originally for a bottom set year 7 so all points of rotation are on the shapes themselves. Rotation sheet should spell out 'rotate&' if done correctly.\n\nProblem solving activity to begin with as the rotation activity wasn&';t going to take the whole lesson.
