I am sharing an assessment grid I have created for drama and performing arts students at KS3. I have also included the five areas of study including acting skills, performing, knowledge, devising and reflecting skills.

My school study BTEC Performing Arts at KS4 so this is designed to embed key skills needed to access this course. It could work well with other pathways too like GCSE drama.

This ppt is designed to support students understand music theory from the very basics through to completing a final composition in standard notation.

Sections include explanations and diagrams on, instrumentation, treble clef, bass clef, rhythms and rests, rhythm ideas and variations, time signatures, melody, motif, sequence, retrograde, inversion, ostinato, ornamentation, countermelody, augmentation, diminution, chords, concord, discord, diatonic, chromatic, block chords, extended chords, broken chords, octaves, inversion, chord progression, perfect cadence, interrupted cadence, imperfect cadence, plagal cadence, key signatures, monophonic, polyphonic, homophonic, how to develop and extend composition ideas, use of contrast, repetition, sequence, ornamentation and structure.

I teach from this ppt but students have their own printed copies in booklet format as a reference point for when they begin working on their own compositions.

It has BTEC references to the tasks for Unit Four Introducing Music Composition throughout but cold work well as an introduction to Music Theory for other exam courses.
