<p>Guided Reading unit of work for James and the Giant Peach. Made for a Year 3 class but can easily be accessed/tweaked to be used in other year groups (KS2).</p> <p>Uses a mixture of children reading and listening to the teacher reading out loud (so LA readers can also access it). Activities have a range of sequencing events, inference style questions, imaginative drawing and lots more.</p> <p>The symbols are from our school Guided Reading policy and indicate the style of question - includes using background information to connect to the text, visualising, prediction/I wonder style questions, think like a detective inference skills, building the gist and vocabulary checks.</p> <p>Includes a pupil copy and a teacher guide in which it gives guidance of where to read to in order for the children - will save a lot of time planning and preparing your guided reading sessions for a term (44 pages of activities - one page per session).</p>

I have used this across Key Stage 2 in every year group and every single child has loved it. <p>A 21 lesson Guided Reading unit of work based on the book ‘Horrid Henry Meets the Queen’. This was used in a Year 2 class but it can be tweaked to be used in Lower Key Stage 2.</p> <p>Tried and tested in Year 2 and our children loved it! They were desperate to find out what happened next. It also inspired some of our reluctant readers to get into Horrid Henry books and read more regularly. <p>Guided Reading unit of work resource used with my Year 3 class however can be accessed by all abilities - some of mine were PKF readers and writers. 24 lessons worth of resources that can be printed into a booklet for the children. Each page has a picture from the book and then a series of ‘I wonder’ questions or speec/thought bubbles for the characters that the children fill in.<br /> My children loved filling it in, created some great discussions and their imaginations went wild! Also helped LA children to develop their inference skills.</p>

<p>14 Guided Reading lessons fully planned and resourced based on the book <strong>Captain Falsebeard and the Wild Goose Chase.</strong> This has been tried and tested in Year 2 classes but could be tweaked to suit Year 3.</p> <p>Our children absolutely loved the story and the planning focuses heavily on vocabulary and simple retrieval skills such as ‘find and copy…’ - we saw a huge improvement in the children’s NFER reading assessments after completing this unit of work. <p>Spread over 3 weeks, this was used with Year 3 children to create newspaper reports about what their chosen Supermarket is doing to reduce waste. This was used towards the end of the year and was challenging - definitely suitable for upper KS2. Not all planning and resources included but there is information about what each of the big supermarkets are doing to reduce waste (data collected early 2018). Children used this to then create posters about their chosen supermarket (template included). After that we wrote our reports a paragraph at a time (SMART notebook included) then created captions for pictures (included). To finish they wrote them up on laptops to give a professional finish.</p> <p>The children were amazed by what the supermarkets are doing and it made them a lot more conscious about what happens to their own waste.</p>
