The brain (AQA New Specification)

(21)
AQA Science (New specification) lesson; differentiated for a low ability class. Interactive, with differentiated tasks.

Addresses the following specification points from the Biology specification:
4.5.2.2 The brain
The brain controls complex behaviour. It is made of billions of interconnected neurones and has different regions that carry out different functions.
• The cerebral cortex is concerned with consciousness, intelligence, memory and language.
• The cerebellum is concerned mainly with the coordination of muscular activity.
• The medulla is concerned with unconscious activities such as heartbeat and breathing.
Students should be able to identify these structures on a diagram of the brain.

Does not address higher ability content:
Neuroscientists have been able to map the regions of the brain to particular functions by studying patients with brain damage, electrically stimulating different parts of the brain and using MRI scanning techniques. The complexity and delicacy of the brain makes investigating and treating brain disorders very difficult.
This lesson was for year 7s, and it includes the PowerPoint, the lesson plan and relevant resources. It's all very detailed because I&'m still on my PGCE and we have to do a lesson plan for each lesson. I have taken bits out of other tes-uploaded files, so thanks to all those contributors who made this lesson possible!

Eyewitness Testimony Revision Session

(1)
A very useful revision session for students using the AQA A Psychology specification.

This revision sessions aims to equip students with everything they need to know to address questions that could come up in the second half of the section on Memory (Memory in Everyday Life).

Students generally find this section difficult due to the large amount of studies that they could potentially learn. This revision session however, breaks down AO1 and AO2/3 sections into manageable chunks that they can tackle alongside their classmates in the form of a carousel.

This revision session can be shortened if needed, but it took me 2 hours to get through it all.

I have looked at the new specification for AQA Psychology and pulled it apart, looking at Papers 1, 2 and 3.

At our School, we'll be entering all students for the AS exam at the end of the first year, and so this document reflects that.

We'll be covering all Paper 1 content (to A-level standard) and the AS content of Paper 2 in the first year. Then the A-level content of Paper 2 will be taught in Year 2, as well as Paper 3 content.

We've chosen Relationships, Aggression and Eating Behaviour to teach as our Options for Paper 3.
