This lesson is intended for 6th - 8th grades, but could be modified for high school. Courses for which you may find this useful are US History, Social Studies, Civics, and Government. This document provides a practical step by step series of question prompts and action tasks, getting students to think about and understand whether the Reconstruction Amendments accomplished their goals. This lesson includes a written assessment (analysis/evaluation) relating to the 14th Amendment and whether our good intentions matched the outcomes in that particular case. The intended duration of this lesson is 30 - 45 minutes, but could be extended based on quality and quantity of student discussion. Anywhere there is a star, the student is expected to do something.
