<p>A largely practical to orthographic drawing that follows the “introduction to Engineering Drawing” lesson, getting students to produce an orthographic drawing and apply the BSI standards to it.</p> <p>NOTE: Lesson requires a set of wooden shapes to draw - An array of different angular shapes cut from wood on the bandsaw - 60 x 60 x 60mm</p> <p>Lesson consists of:<br /> Starter activity<br /> Detailed slides that give step-by-step instructions for setting up an orthographic drawing<br /> Slides including information on all relevant BSI rules</p>

<p>Introduces plastics, where they come from and how they are categorised.</p> <p>A knowledge organiser details the category, properties &amp; uses of all the polymers required by WJEC.</p> <p>An activity gets students to suggest and explain their choices of polymer they would use to create different objects based on their properties.</p>

<p>Introduces composite materials, going in to detail about the ones required by WJEC Engineering specifiaction.</p> <p>Starter activity, group discussion about composite examples, informative video, Definitions, mini quiz &amp; exam-style question activity.</p> <p>Designed for a 1 hour lesson.</p>

<p>The project introduces textiles as a subject. Students make felt (learning about fibres &amp; fabrics), turn the felt into small wallets (learning to hand sew) and then make an applique keyring (introducing basic pattern cutting).</p> <p>It is based on a term-long rotation with a 1 hour lesson each week, but is easy to amend as it is made up of 3 mini projects as well as stand alone theory lessons.</p> <p>A series of 17 lessons complete with:</p> <ul> <li>Worksheets</li> <li>Detailed powerpoints that explain the tasks &amp; provide structure to the lesson</li> <li>Starter activites</li> <li>Knowledge organiser for the project</li> <li>Step-by-step guides for each mini-project</li> <li>SoW</li> </ul> <p>After years of teaching long projects in Textiles, I have found the mini-project approach better in KS3 as it allows students more chances to evaluate &amp; start again.</p>
