<p>Children use their knowledge of division to crack the division codes . The resource includes 3 division codes on SMART notebook and with the same codes transferred into a word document. The codes ask children to use their knowledge of division to work out which letter corresponds to which digit. It helps to reinforce times tables working up to the 12the multiple. It can be used with the more able, but equally with support most children can access the activity. The easiest way to start is to work out which times tables the division code can’t be by looking at the dividend; ask the children which times table this could be based on knowing how many one digit dividends there are. For example the code based on 4 times table would only have 2 single digit dividends; 4 and 8. From there they should be able to eliminate a lot of possibilities. The code easiest to break is where the dividend and divisor are the same number so the answer will be 1.e.g.4 divided by 4 would be 1. From there the next easiest codes to solve are where the answer, or quotient, is a two digit answer as there are only 3 possibilities: 10, 11 or 12, with the answer 11 easy to identify.</p>
