A powerpoint (including a video) and planning sheet to help guide students towards writing their own commencement address using Roger Federer’s as an example. I’ve used this with sucess with my 16+ learners but could be used for KS4. A nice way to reflect on the year/their school experience. (At our college, all students and staff are writing their own and will put them into a book for students to take with them when they leave.)

Level 2 Functional Skills English SLC discussion input & practice. Input/resources for discussion practice on diversity & representation in TV using Doctor Who as an example. Two exam style writing tasks for students studying for Level 2 Functional Skills English with Pearson Edexcel (although could be used as general writing tasks for other students) with space to answer in an exam style booklet. Task 1 is an email applying for community arts funding and task 2 is a social media response to a post discussing diversity in film.

Just a quick reflection sheet I made for my class when doing a writing task. The idea behind this resource to get students to explicitly think about what improvements they’ve made to their writing and what to take from that when doing their exam. I used it in a level 2 Functional Skills English lesson but it could be used for any writing task at any level including GCSE or KS3 / KS4 work.

This is a writing task designed for my GCSE English Language resist class to help prepare them for Paper 1, question 5 but it could be used to teach any kind of fiction writing. It includes clear and specific instructions for what to include in their writing (derived from the mark scheme) and three ready-to-go story plans. Some of my students are blocked from practicing writing because they struggle to think of ideas on the spot and some of them by the time they’ve planned have run out of concentration. Some of them are also good with ideas but need to focus more on how they’re putting their words and sentences together. I use this in conjunction with tasks designed to aid planning and structure, but this particular task where they’re already given a step by step plan of a story focuses them on how they are writing rather than what they’re writing and takes away any anxiety about the content they’re writing about being ‘wrong’.
