Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen : a commentary / study guide for A level students, undergraduates and teachers. This is a detailed and academic study guide, with plenty of context (and illustrative images) and perspective from specialist critics. You can use this commentary without having the novel in your hand, as the relevant passages are printed out for you.

The Tempest, a commentary / study guide is a detailed academic guide to the play, scene by scene. (The long second scene of the play has commentaries on five sections.) The commentaries include context, critics and performance. I wrote this guide for my eighteen-year-old students, but it would also be useful at university level. One of the documents contains a simpler commentary on the whole play, for those students who find Shakespeare particularly challenging.

Hamlet - this is a detailed commentary with extensive context, critics’ and actors’ views on the play . This resource is aimed at A level and university students, and teachers and at anyone who would like to know more about Shakespeare’s most famous play. The files are titled by act and scene to help guide you through the play.

‘The Rape of the Lock’ by Alexander Pope is a commentary / study guide for A level students and undergraduates or college students. It could be useful to teachers, too. It gives a modern translation, an academic but accessible commentary, plus plenty of context and images, and varying opinions and perspectives from critics, both contemporary and modern.
