A four session writing opportunity, exploring the structure and language of poems.

I’ve taught this with Y3 - Y11 with great results. No matter the age, the pupils always enjoy the humour and the practicality of handling actual objects.

This version has National Curriculum objectives for Years 5 and 6. It’s good for short burst writing, to boost the writing portfolio of Year 6 before moderation, teaching editing skills, developing planning skills, leading onto performing poetry (one of the NC objectives).

Most resources embedded into the PowerPoint. It includes an example poem written by yours truly. The guidance, on how to teach it, are in the notes section of each slide.

Have fun!

Edit: found two typos in the 4th session materials. Re-uploaded with corrections.

This is a 6 week scheme of work, targeted at Years 5 and 6 (although you could adapt it for Years 7 or 8). It explores 5 Shakespeare texts and 1 non-fiction text. Each week, it includes a quiz (with SATs style questions).

I am a qualified secondary English teacher with 13 years experience. For the last two years, I’ve been teaching KS2 classes. Moreover, I mark for a range of exam boards (including SATs and GCSE English Literature).

Included in the resource…
* Scheme of work (teacher’s notes) with objectives, resource lists and activities linked to lesson slides.
* Assessment spreadsheet.
* Key phrase bank for pupils.
* Lesson slides for 23 lessons.
* Resources for the lessons.
* 6 big quizzes (reading assessments) with mark schemes.

You can literally pick up and teach. My class loved this scheme and are now all avid Shakespeare fans!

I use this maths mat in class. Double-sided and laminated, it means my class can write on it with board pens and wipe off later. This really helps with the place value table.

This has been used for years 4 and 5. This resource includes a PDF version and the original PowerPoint in case you want to edit it.
