Year 1 literacy seaside senses

(0)

A Year 1 literacy lesson on the seaside. Children describe objects they can see at the seaside and write descriptive sentences using the senses.
Differentiated for HA children with an ambitious vocabulary book. LA children have sentence strips and starters. Plan and resources include a child with a 1:1 LSA.
I used for an observed lesson with mini sensory trays which I put sand, shells and other seaside-related objects in.

A set of 10 SMART Notebook pages for phonics screening practice with a year 1 class.
Each page contains some real and alien phase 5 words to sort as a class.
I use on the carpet as a whiteboard activity and extend children by getting them to draw the sound buttons on.
There is a heavy emphasis on split digraphs as that is what year 1 children tend to struggle with.

Year 1 Science classifying materials lesson

A lesson I used in an observation which went well. Plan, resources and SMART Notebook file included.
Children learn to distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made, then classify objects. (You will need sorting hoops and objects for this.)
I’ve also included some odd one out activities to deepen understanding and a powerpoint file with 4 levels of difficulty. I opened the powerpoint on laptops. Children used the file in pairs by dragging different objects into the hoop to make their own collections of objects.

Some plans and revision slides for my class based on their needs in practice screening checks. The plans revisit orally blending 2 and 3 syllable words, as well as discretely teaching some consonant blends from phase 4. There is a lot of emphasis on split digraphs because I don’t think it is possible to practise these too much!
For the “apply” section of the plans I will either handwrite the resources or use sheets from Twinkl, so I have not uploaded anything for that section.
