This set of simple, five-minute worksheets help your students progress through reading rhythmic notation and pitch, and apply these skills to listening, problem-solving, and composition tasks.

Coinciding with the National Curriculum KS2 music theory objectives, the sheets cover:

Reading crotchets, minims, quavers, semibreves and crotchet rests.

Understanding time signatures and bar lines.

Reading pitch on the stave.

Understanding sharps and flats.

Dictation.

Simple composition.

The worksheets could also be used for advanced KS1 pupils or year 7 secondary pupils recapping core musical knowledge.

Answers are not provided, as several questions leave room for the teacher to select listening material to suit the needs and interests of the student.

How I use this resource: some of these sheets are great for quick-quiz recaps at the start of each music lesson. The composition task is a great way to apply all their new knowledge to an assessed task.
