Inspirational people for your book corner!

(2)

I made these fact files on many people throughout history who aren’t always mentioned. I have been thinking about ways to include diversity in my classroom and a way for children to learn about inspirational people from all over the world.

I printed mine, laminated and then put them on keyrings to hand up and let children read when they are asked to spend some time ‘reading their book’, instead of a book they can pick up some of these and start learning! I hope they will start conversations and spark an interest and perhaps even more research into the people :)

Maths overview 1-6

(18)

Made a maths curriculum overview for years 1-6. It includes the main parts of the NC, the white rose guidance links and the NCETM maths mastery assessment document (as a link). I have a hard copy and online version so the links are accessible! I made all the years instead of just year 4 (the year I’m teaching in September) as I want to know what comes next and what comes before. I think the year 3 curriculum will be very important for me to know in depth considering the impact of the pandemic and the gaps they may form in their learning. We also may have children in the class working at all kinds of levels and knowing where they need to go next etc, I may need to look in a different year! It’s also handy because you move around a lot in your career and I think it will be helpful. I made this as I realised I needed it but if anyone would like it I have shared it here! :)

English overview

(11)

Made an English overview for years 1-6, this includes the NC statements, links to different websites for each group and at the front there is a small list of websites that could be used for a few different key stages and year groups for all kinds of objectives. I again have this as a hard copy and an online version so I access the links easier. I made it for the same reasons as the maths as I think it’s good for me to know each year group so I know what they’ve done before and what they are doing next. I made this as I knew I needed and sharing just in case anyone else would find it useful! :)

Science overview for years 1-6, this includes all the NC requirements for each each group and a table at the front (see last 2 pictures) which shows each scientific topic (colour coded) and what year groups it is introduced in and taught in, which I hope will help with recognising progression. It also includes a small list of websites which are useful for science teaching and have activities for the class. I have these for my benefit as I think knowing it for each group will be really useful for me. I’m really happy my English and maths ones have been useful for other people and so have uploaded this one, too! :)

Mindfulness Jar

(3)

Mindfulness jars, at the start of the year I am going to do an activity where we talk as a class about what makes us calm and happy. The children can then fill out a mindfulness jar each. It will be full of things that make them happy, things that they are calm when they are doing etc and keep this in their trays with them. They can then take it out of their tray when they need to calm down and go to the calm corner to help them keep focused on things that makes them happier. You can spot the one I did for myself as a an example! I hope this will help children when we return to school as they may be feeling more anxious and need more reminders of the good/positive things during the day. I printed mine out on coloured card, this is just the template!

Rules:

Children roll the dice and can move around the board any way they want. Once they get to the hexagon they have to answer the question or the cards correctly and when completed they get to put their coloured counter on the hexagon. The first person to have completed all the hexagons wins the game!

These are a simple device to use to help children become more descriptive when using colours. There are lots of examples and synoymns on the crayon shaped cut outs that can be put on the wall and used on desks if you like! :)

Multiplication, division, subtraction and addition wall displays with words that can be used for all four operations! Sometimes children may not know what ‘find the difference…’ in a question so getting them used to and using all the vocabulary that goes with them is good.

Interactive spelling display resources🖍🖌 I made some cards that include an activity for the children to do with their spelling list, a word search with the most commonly misspelt words and ‘write your own sentences’ with all the statutory year 4 spellings (which could be adapted for any year group and their spellings) During morning times etc they can get up to the wall and take whatever activity they want to practice their own spellings or other spellings they need to learn! This will go with my class dictionary and be part of the SPAG and spelling display.

I thought something like this would look cool. Might even prompt some discussion (hopefully) I remember the class I was on placement with last year were very shocked when they found out that Nitrogen makes up most of our atmosphere instead of Oxygen!

Times Tables Key-rings

(2)

This a document full of different coloured cards with the times tables up to 12x, I printed them out and laminated each one. I then created a key-ring with them all on, because they are laminated it means they can write on them in whiteboard pens and rub off. I am not a fan of rote learning but they need to see the number sentences and be able to practice so thought this would be nice for each child to have and whip out when they needed to!

Strategies for metacognition

(0)

Strategies for metacognition is something I find harder as a new NQT. I have made a small key ring with different strategies to help me and keep on me when I need to remember which ones will suit the lesson/activity during my planning to help my children the most. I originally thought to do this after seeing a helpful document by @/misscteachre on twitter and then went on to do some readings and research to create this.

I made this to remind the children to look at it so they can make sure they’ve done everything on the list when they said they have finished. Most things are suitable for every subject, just the ‘editing one’ maybe not for maths! Uses bitmoji again so that can be edited!

I used key rings to attached it all :)
