<p>We looked that the story War Game by Michael Foreman as part of our Local History unit. The final outcome was for the chn to write their own flashback from a characters point of view focusing specifically on the Christmas Day Truce.</p> <p>We looked at:<br /> Why the war started - did some role play for this<br /> Propaganda<br /> Diary entries<br /> Letter from trenches<br /> Dialogue between characters<br /> Final write - Flashback</p> <p>Hope you find it useful</p>

<p>Planning based on the text by Julia Jarman. This was used with a Year 4 class but can be adapted for years 5 or 6.</p> <p>We used this text as part of our Roman unit of learning.</p>

<p>2 Weeks worth of planning and resources to support the teaching of a persuasive letter to the South African government to release Mandela from prison.</p>

<p>Planning and resources (including flipchart) based on the story of Romulus and Remus. This unit was taught to Year 4 children alongside teaching a history unit based on the Romans.</p>

<p>3 weeks worth of planning, flip chart and resourcing for the lovely text Cloud Tea Monkeys by Maal Peet and Elspeth Graham.<br /> In this planning, the children are immediately hooked in with a session on tasting a variety of teas and describing the taste. Then, we move on to exploring and responding to the text by writing diary entries, letters, setting description, set of instructions, email, before working towards writing a non-chron report about tea.</p>

2 weeks planning based on the story of King Alfred and the Cakes - the Anglo Saxon King. This planning using Pie Corbett style of writing where chn reinvent the story by changing key elements. In this case we changed: the king, the kingdom and the item that was burnt.

<p>2 weeks planning based on explanation text writing on how bees make honey. This unit links nicely to Year 2 or 3 plants unit and could start with a book about bees being read.</p>

<p>Aimed at a Year 2 (ability from P8-Yr 3 level writers)<br /> Included is a 1 week detailed plan focusing on the royal history behind the castle.<br /> Starts off by introducing chn to the history of the castle; chn then describe and include some of the history in their description and included some of the features of the castle.<br /> Then planning moves on to King Edward 1st and Henry 8th’s ownership and how they changed/improved the castle.<br /> Finally, changes made in 19th and 20th century.<br /> The weeks ends with chn sequencing timeline and designing their own castle.</p> <p>Planning can be adapted to suit you class’ needs. My chn produced some great writing this week, they really enjoyed learning about the history behind the castle. Prior to this, we learnt about castles in general (planning / resources are available in my resources) and focused on Leeds as we will be going there on a trip.</p>

<p>4 days worth of work that introduces chn to The Romans. First lesson explores British History, chn sequence event in History on a timeline. The other days look at:<br /> The death of Julius Caesar (crime report)<br /> A day in the life of a Roman Soldier (diary)<br /> Life before the Romans invaded (letter from a 10year old at the time perspective)</p>

<p>Grammar Spelling and Punctuation planning and resources for 4x30 min GPS lessons.</p> <p>The zipped folder includes all of the resources and planning for every week but I’ve put up a couple weeks planning as a preview.<br /> The planning follows a specific pattern:<br /> Spelling Revision - year 2 patterns and rules<br /> Punctuation<br /> Grammar<br /> Spelling - year 4 rules and patterns</p> <p>Hope it’s helpful, saves you some time and the chn learn something new.</p>

<p>4 Weeks planning for whole class guided reading. Planning includes questions related to parts of the text, key vocab that chn will find challenging with definitions and discussion points with the chn.</p> <p>I hope you find this useful, we have only just moved into whole class guided reading so this is my first time planning guided reading in this way - feedback welcome!</p>
