Useful for all, but designed to be inclusive of students who have maths anxiety. Many students don’t want to write an answer because of the fear of getting it wrong. Seeing their answer as a multiple choice option takes away that fear. Progressive difficulty means that the resource is available for all in your class to use. Low stakes quizzing is great for you and your students to know how much they have learned. If you quiz as part of a weekly routine, you could get a positive buzz going. Suggested use: Use this quiz after teaching column addition & subtraction with decimals. Later questions involve a lot of carrying so make sure your students have access to a mini-whiteboard or scrap paper. If they don’t do well on the first go, do some follow-up teaching on the questions they had wrong, consider giving homework on the topic, and give them another chance with the shadow quiz. You could also use this as a pre-test for topics that involve decimal calculations. Give the attached answers to students so that they can peer or self mark after.
