<p>This resource in used in conjuction with the ‘Space Week 2024’ ppt slide 15.</p> <p>Contains the template to cut out the rocket fins, results table and angle measurer.</p> <p><strong>Rocket fins</strong> - print on A4 card (ideally, can also use paper). Cut along the two black vertical lines in the middle, then the black diagonal line in the middle of each square. This should leave you with two triangles.</p> <ol> <li> <p>On each triangle are 3 red lines. Students need to fold along the dotted red line, and then stick the fin to the rocket with tape along the solid red line. This gives you two fins.</p> </li> <li> <p>If you only want one fin, then cut along the solid red line in the middle of the triangle.</p> </li> <li> <p>Each square produces 4 fins and is roughly 10cmx10cm. These fins can then be angled as mentioned on the slide.</p> </li> </ol> <p><em>Ext</em>: Students can experiment with different sized triangle fins along with the angles for a more in depth experiment.</p> <p><strong>Results table</strong> - attached on an A4 word document with two to a page. The results table has result boxes from 10 - 90 degrees, and distance in meters. 3 columns with a mean distance column are included so that the launch can be repeated 3 times.</p> <p><strong>Rocket Launcher Angle Measurer -</strong> protractor from 0 to 90 degrees printed on A3 paper (ideally) so that students can angle the launcher against the guide and achieve the correct launch angle.</p>

<p>Part of the ‘Space week 2024’ Battleships Activity, slide 10.</p> <p>Contains two templates of the moon in a grid - One blank and the other with locations of lunar landings marked, among other interesting locations.</p> <p>Provide one pair with a blank template and a location template (ideally printed on A3 paper) , and have them facing eachother with something inbetween so they cannot see eachother’s papers.<br /> The player with the blank landing site will guess a grid number and depending on if it contains a moon landing location, the other player will call ‘Hit!’ or ‘Miss!’<br /> Continue until all moon landing sites have been found</p> <p>Ext: Provide each player with a copy of the blank template and ask them to choose landing sites themselves, then play as above.</p> <p>Ext 2: Provide each player with a copy of both the blank and marked locations template, and ask them to decide where they would land on the moon based on the information shared in the ‘Space Week 2024 ppt’. They can then choose their own locations, taking into consideration crates, lakes and mountains etc. Play as above.</p>

<p>This PowerPoint provides a taster into the work of a Detective/Forensic Scientist through an exciting murder mystery. Students will investigate the murder of Mr Gold by completing a number of tasks based on a particular evidence type: fingerprints, blood pattern analysis, footwear impressions, Fibers and DNA analysis.<br /> Following this, they will be required to create a report detailing their decision as to who they think the murderer is, what was the possible motive and how at least three pieces of evidence supports this.</p> <p>This PowerPoint can be adapted to suit your particular school/situation. The tasks should take majority of a lesson to complete so the report could be set as homework. It encourages students to work together in groups, as each student will have a different role to play whilst collectively making decisions.</p> <p>Students are presented with the case details, then given the witness statements of the four possible suspected. After reading through these, they are asked to come up with a hypothesis as to who they think committed the crime, what might the motive be and what could the murder weapon be. Throughout the session they will use their initial hypothesis as a base, reflecting on how results of each evidence type may cause it to change, representing how detectives build a case based on different evidence.</p> <p>Resources for each evidence type are included, each has a brief introduction, including information that the students will need to answer the tasks. Some of the tasks are interactive and use physical props, which will be highlighted on each resource. However, these are not necessary, and tasks can be completed without physical props as some schools may not have the ability to procure these.</p> <p>This was initially created for British Science Week 2024 with the theme ‘Time’ so has lots of references to Time throughout, which is an important part of Forensic Science! However, it can just as easily be used as a Lesson, Science Club Activity etc.</p> <p>Please let me know if you have any questions and enjoy introducing Forensic Science to your students!</p>
