Edexcel A Level English Literature Poetry Component

(2)
I created this for my students to add to their folders or to stick into their Poetry exercise books. I've included links to Youtube videos and to the exam board material. I've broken down the exam structure and AO's for AS and A Level papers and the differences between them. Included is guidance on essay writing, example comparative essay plan, glossary, basic information on contextual areas and support in knowing what is needed in a comparative essay, there is also an assessment tracker that we stick into our exercise book for on going recording/target setting. I've also made these for Drama and Prose components as well as a coursework component one.

Blooms Taxonomy bank of activities for Edexcels A Level English Literature Poems of the Decade & Unseen component. The PowerPoint document has 32 slides with 4 activity cards (slides) for each level of the Taxonomy. The activities are mapped against the different levels from the marking grid and inform students what Assessment Objectives they are rehearsing with each activity. The activities for each level are further differentiated by difficulty and by the AO’s they approach - they are easy to further personalise and differentate for your students needs too. There are a number of unseen poem exercises/questions included (with poems on slides included) to help prepare for the unseen comparision - some of these poems are from the Poems of the Decade Anthology and some are from the Edexcel Unseen preparation anthology online. Activities range from simple Rag Rating and Reflection Tasks to Designing your own exam questions and indicative content.
I have these printed and laminated on my display board as starters/extension task/homework task/last miniute lesson/revision - they are really versitile and have become a room staple for me with this unit.

I created these packs for my students to add to their folders or to stick into their exercise books for each of the components we have studied. The exercise book files are between 5-7 pages each and have information on how to approach particular aspects of each component of the Edexcel 2015 A Level In English Literature specification - there are links to Youtube videos and to the exam board material. I’ve broken down the exam structure and AO’s for AS and A Level papers and the differences between them. Included is guidance on essay writing, example essay plans, disected paragraphs for stucture, glossarys, examiner reports, basic information on contextual areas… the information is adjusted slightly depending on the focus of the AO’s in the component i.e a focus on comparative planning and methods for unseen poetry in the POD (poems of the decade) exercise book notes. I’ve also added my HW grids for the texts I teach - the homework grids each have differentiated activities from knowledge to evaluation tasks - think Blooms - and have been emergency HW, extension activitys for in class or revision tasks for the high flyers.

Edexcel A Level English Lit AO2 Poetry Analysis Flow Chart

(0)

Flow chart used as a table resource to support students in working out how to discuss AO2 features. This was developed for an Autistic student who struggled to work out how to discuss the ways an element of craft made meaning - the example used here is caesura and consideration of a line of poetry from the Poems of the Decade Antholody, however the process can be applied to any element of craft for any text. There is a minimal flow chart template on the back so that I’ve photo copied for students to fill in analysing a symbol/motif from a text (although you could easily adapt for students to select another device.)
Please be aware this is a PDF and cannot be edited as it is a scan of my table resource.

A Streetcar Named Desire Connection Cards

Set of cards for A Streetcar Named Desire - the cards have either a character/character pair, quote, contextual fact, play extract, theme, literary device, scene number or aspect of stagecraft. Students divide the cards between themselves and then each place a random card down the first student to come up with the most meaningful connection between the cards laid down ‘wins’ and the opponents each take back their card and the student with the least meaningful connection also takes the winners card. I have a set for use as starters (I spilt a couple of copies of the set between my class of 16 so there’s only a few cards per student), plenaries, extension resource for writing or just when conversation needs a boost. These can be used in numerous other ways too - starting points for writing or research, sorting for seating plans, revision (students can write on the back of them as they are blank), close analysis tasks (deep dive into the quotes/extracts or research into contextual application), prompts for developing essay responses/plans, etc. They are easy to use for differentiation - simply take out or only use the cards you want for groups or pairs.
These are for A Level (no critical comments) - there are 8 A4 pages with 8 cards per page. A PDF and a Word doc so you can edit/develop as you wish too.

Close Reading For Analysis Placemat

This is a resource I've used with my AS and A Level English Literature students to support them with analysing texts generally. I laminate them and stick to my tables as reference place-mats so they can use them independently.
