Reading Skills SOW Firework Maker's Daughter

A full teaching powerpoint for 30 lessons covering reading skills for year 5/6. Includes all resources. All lessons include fluency activities, most include a vocab activity and another activity where explicit skills are modeled and then practised (retrieval, ordering events, inference, finding evidence, summarising, predicting, commenting on author choice, as well as identifying comprehension question types and answering them). This is not a reading comprehension pack or a standard guided reading pack!

This is the first of these powerpoints that I have made in advance of a term, normally I just make them as we work through a book. I have been using the lesson and activity format for a couple of years now and have had excellent results in KS2 SATS. I teach reading skills 4 times a week (4 x 30 ish minutes) and by using a class novel, readers who never finish a book (or change books as often as they change their pants) are more engaged. I use the Kagan manage mats in class for differentiation - Green = highest ability/blue = lowest ability - this is the coloured grid that appears on some slides. SEN students follow the same lesson activities but have pre-read the text with an LSA and are supported in mixed ability Kagan groups. Please make comments or suggestions and leave feedback. Thanks.
