Edexcel 9 - 1 Crime and Punishment GCSE

(0)

Collection of lessons covering the 4 time periods in the Crime and Punishment GCSE. The Whitechapel section I have uploaded separately. Ideal for when you have run out of time or have students who find the content too much. The aim of the lessons is to either create a booklet out of them with blank pages for work to be completed where appropriate or to print pages and stick them into exercise books. In Chapter 1 for example there is a summary of key changes that you stick in and help students learn how to write notes from the most recent Edexcel textbook around the outside by modeling on the board. Other pages to print and stick in have the tasks listed on the page. There are plenty of practice questions and I have found it was best to go through them all. The first one as a model that we have written as a class and then further of the same question students tackle themselves.

Mystery in the Cathedral - Henry and Becket

(0)

PowerPoint and differentiated worksheets to tell the story of Henry II and Thomas Becket. The aim of the lesson is to help students come to a conclusion on whether the King or the Church were in control in medieval England.

To come to this conclusion students complete a number of tasks including a source evaluation, discussion and answering questions on their own and an indepth acting activity where 9 to 17 students can have a role as part of an imagined news report on the events. Hopefully this activity draws out acting skills because most students will have seen an exaggerated news report before and helps them think about truth versus exaggeration. For students who do not like acting they can complete the tasks on the worksheets to feed into the final discussion whether the Church of Crown were the most powerful.
