<p>Using the YouTube video of Kid President as inspiration, children write about what they would/should/could/might do if they were President of children. This lesson is intended to follow a lesson on what a modal verb is and then use it in context.<br /> The video shows what the Kid President thinks needs to happen in our world and then the children have a go themselves. I often give them a tie so they can pretend to be President when they share their ideas with the class.</p>

A great resource for making bar charts fun and purposeful! The video shows Willy Wonka asking for help. The EU regulators are asking him to show which Oompa Loompas in his factory are working the hardest! The children then have two bags of sweets (pretend sweets would work!) on each table from two Oompa Loompas; they have to then compare the sets of data and present them on a bar chart. <br /> <br /> The children love the real life context of this lesson. The Promethean flipchart is also on Powerpoint.

This could be used for Year 6 and upwards. It is a fun way of teaching a rather dry topic! It is linked to the Tour de France, giving it a real life context. The children will make plasticine models of hills/mountains and added lines to them. <br /> <br /> The video shows cyclist Jeff who is asking for help with his cycling as he finds going up hills and mountains hard and needs help reading the map. The children will write to Jeff and tell him about their individual hill/mountain. They can give it a name and they need to describe the relief of it using the contour lines.<br /> <br /> - MUST: Understand what contour lines are <br /> <br /> - SHOULD: Understand how they are measured and use them in context <br /> <br /> - COULD: Understand how to use 2D/3D pictures to represent contour lines
