Bridging through 10 or 100 -Number Lines

This resource explains and allows students to practice adding and subtracting through anchor points like 10 and 100. It focuses on ‘jumping’ back or ‘bridging’ forwards to anchor numbers. for eg: 7+5 can be worked out by partitioning 5 into 3 and 2. First add 3 to make 10 (10 is an anchor), then add the remaining 2 to make your final answer 12. or… 120- 50. 50 can be partitioned into 20 and 30. 120- 20 takes me to 100 (anchor). Then subtract the remaining 30 to make 70! Perfect for year 2/3. Can also be used to support mental maths skills in older students. Includes smaller numbers to help bridge through <100 for year 2 and larger numbers <1000 to support older. 11 varying/differentiated sheets in total! I hope you find this useful.
