This is a unique resource that uses the song 'Where the wild roses grow' by Nick Cave (featuring Kylie Minogue) It is aimed at Year 9 students but could also be used for a range of year groups (maybe a bit too 'edgy' for year 7) The aim of the lesson is to look at the language and voices in the song and to write own murder ballad. There is also a 'confession letter' activity and other suggested activities. This is a resource that could easily last over three or four lessons if you wanted it to.

<p>This was originally published on here over 10 years ago under a different account of mine. It got TES PICK at the time and was reviewed very favourably. It is a four week scheme comparing the Japanese anime film ‘Spirited Away’ with Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ - as fantasy genre. I have not included text extracts with this as teachers can easily find the text online and copy and paste accordingly. It is not necessary actually to have the text - you can just use the film media if you want.</p>
