This is the first lesson in a series for the new AQA (8145) Norman England, c1066-1100. <br /> <br /> This lesson uses the red Hodder Education textbook but can be easily adapted for use with the pink Oxford University Press textbook if needed.<br /> <br /> In this lesson the students are introduced to the back story of England before the Norman invasion focusing on answering two important questions, why the Vikings were invading England and why Edward the Confessor came to the throne.

The lesson was designed to be part of the AQA A-Level NEA but could be used for GCSE level and above provided students are motivated and have a good understanding of how to approach a complex historical debate. The lesson does not link to any textbook and all resources are included.</p>
