This is a collection of four different Christmas tasks. These include a curve stitching activity to create a star using number bonds to 10, finding different ways to make the target numbers of 100 and 1000 to reach the top of the Christmas tree , colouring snowflake patterns with different orders of rotation and completing snowflake patterns using lines of symmetry. Answers are also included.

The first worksheet is a "wrong homework" where students are asked to spot the mistakes and correct them. The questions are designed to pick up on some common misconceptions on simplifying expressions. The last two worksheets are made up of colour-coded questions on simplifying expressions involving division (green-easy, yellow- medium, red- more challenging). Students can start to work on the colour they feel most confident with and build up to the next colour.

Rounding decimal numbers to 1, 2, 3, 4 decimal places. Questions involve square rooting and cube rooting numbers and then rounding to different degrees of accuracy. A worksheet designed to help introduce the idea of how to calculate the mean of a set of numbers. Ten questions that increase in difficulty. I have used this activity with year 7 and they have really enjoyed it.

I have used these number crunch questions with year 7 but questions can be adapted . They help practise quick-fire number skills. Each caterpillar starts with a number. As you work along the caterpillar, you need to carry out one of the four operations to come to a final answer. I have used these as a starter activity where students can be given a time limit to complete. I have found displaying working and answers on mini-whiteboards an effective way to help keep the pace of the activity as well as ensuring that students know how they have done.
