The first worksheet is a "wrong homework" where students are asked to spot the mistakes and correct them. The questions are designed to pick up on some common misconceptions on simplifying expressions. The last two worksheets are made up of colour-coded questions on simplifying expressions involving division (green-easy, yellow- medium, red- more challenging). Students can start to work on the colour they feel most confident with and build up to the next colour.

Number Crunch

I have used these number crunch questions with year 7 but questions can be adapted . They help practise quick-fire number skills. Each caterpillar starts with a number. As you work along the caterpillar, you need to carry out one of the four operations to come to a final answer. I have used these as a starter activity where students can be given a time limit to complete. I have found displaying working and answers on mini-whiteboards an effective way to help keep the pace of the activity as well as ensuring that students know how they have done. It would be great to get some feedback on this resource.
