Artist Analysis/Evaluation Help sheet for GCSE Art and Design students

(0)
This is a help sheet for GCSE students to aid their contextual critical writing on artists and sources. Using Rod Taylor’s Content, Process, Form and Mood as starting points for their analysis the students can use the sentence starters on the sheet to add to the written annotation. The AQA examination board states that all GCSE students should have written contextual annotation in their coursework. I devised this sheet to help my students write their analysis effectively in their sketchbook.

This powerpoint can be used with Year 9 or 10 and is a taster of a self directed project on Politically influenced art and artists. I have taught the project successfully with Year 9 as a GCSE taster project before they choose their GCSE options. The powerpoint leads students through the four assessment objectives used with AQA Art, Craft and Design to create a meaningful response influenced by a story from the news. This is a past AQA GCSE starting point/Exam question.

Pattern from around the world - How pattern connects to our diverse cultural backgrounds

(0)
This presentation describes how pattern from around the world can be reflected in Art and Design in the use of motif and colour. I am from the North East so my example of pattern making references the mining industry but the powerpoints also reference local landmarks in London. I have tried to create a SOW that references the diverse cultures in my classroom and how their culture can inform their pattern designs. The idea is to create a batik pattern with reference to African colours and meanings within the motif. The next process is a clay tile using Islamic Art as a source. Beatriz Milhazes could be referenced and Mexican day of the dead. The last process is a collage using Japanese/Manga pattern or Ryan Guiness inspired modern day references in his pattern work.
