The pack consists of twenty six bingo cards, each with nine words from the Year 2 list of Common Exception Words. The cards can be cut out, laminated and used repeatedly, with children crossing out / circling words as they are called out, using a whiteboard pen. Alternatively, counters / bits of card etc. might be used to cover the words, so lessening the need for laminating – perfect for ultra - busy teachers!

How about trying different games? Full house? Full line – horizontal, vertical, diagonal? 3 words, 4 words, 5 words etc.? Use scoring systems as an extra incentive – e.g. one point for every word covered over 3 games; the child with the most points wins a small reward, even if they don’t actually manage ‘Bingo!’ itself.

Included at the end is a full list of Year 2 Common Exception Words in alphabetical order against a tick list for five games, so teachers can keep a record of the words called in each game.

When a child wins a game, perhaps they can read out all the words correctly, as an added challenge, or choose one or two of the words to put in a sentence for extra points.

All the words appear on at least one card, with most words making several appearances.

A fun PowerPoint version of flashcards of all the Year 2 Common Exception words. Each word is on its own slide, which has the ‘grow and turn’ entrance animation. There is a ‘shape’ transition between each word. The words are in alphabetical order, but this can be edited easily. The presentation can be used for a variety of activities, e.g.

As conventional flashcards – display and say the words as a class, or make it more competitive by using a quiz format and give points for the first team to say or write each word correctly.

Who can be the first to say or write the word before it fully appears?

Four or five lines of children. Only the front child can answer. The first one to answer goes to the back of the line. First line to get back to the beginning wins.

Who can be the first to say or write the full version of the word before it fully appears?

Memory test: select a small number of slides and display them for a few seconds each. Who can remember all the words (verbally, in writing, correctly spelt etc.)

Who can be the first to write a sentence with the displayed word in it – specify rules (e.g. more than 8 words; fewer than 8 words; at least one adjective; at least one conjunction etc. etc.)

A resource to help revise multiplication tables x 2 - x 12. Each table is typed out, with an accompanying test below it. When children feel secure with each table, they can colour in the relevant words to show they have reached the next table.

This can be used as an in-class or take-home revision resource over an extended period of time. It is suitable for Year 2 - Year 5/6 children.
This resource consists of 7 sheets of 2D shapes.

The first 6 sheets ask children to tick a particular shape among the mix (sheet 1 – triangles, sheet 2 – rectangles, sheet 3 – squares, sheet 4 - pentagons, sheet 5 – hexagons, sheet 6 – octagons). There are three of the target shapes to tick on each sheet.

The final sheet is a colouring sheet, where children have to colour shapes according to a colour key.
This resource is suitable as revision towards Year 2 SATS, but could also be useful for lower ability Year 3 children and higher ability Year 1 children.

This resource consists of twenty coloured cards, each with a different reading related activity suggestion.

The cards can either be cut out and laminated, or kept as they are and used in worksheet style.

Children can use the cards independently, either choosing a card at random, or by preference. The activities could be done in relation to the current guided reading book, or indeed with any book in mind!

The cards can be used repeatedly, with different books, thus enhancing the independent learning nature of the resource.

There is a fun recording sheet at the end, for children to indicate how hard / easy / enjoyable they found each task.
There are 10 sets of small numbered cards, 1-100. Each set is a different colour, for ease of storage / sorting.

The cards are designed to be cut out and laminated (or just cut out and used as 'tickets', which I have found younger children tend to love)!

The cards have a multitude of uses, e.g. counting / sorting / sequencing / Snap! They are also extremely useful for generating numbers in maths lessons, to promote independent learning, in today's largely textbook - free classroom environment.
