Useful for challenging those high ability students, showing how to structure essay responses for the exam, and for generally encouraging students to raise the quality of their analysis.
I spent a long time producing this resource as I felt it was something that my students would really benefit from.

I thought about which poems best compare with which and have done detailed grids, looking at structure, meaning, language, imagery and effect. I have also chosen key quotes and analysed them on the following slides.

We’re doing the AQA English Literature A Love through the Ages course and my students have found these notes useful!

This is a lesson on literary proposals for the unseen prose part of AQA love through the ages. It uses a historicist approach, getting the students to think about proposals over time, and getting them to look at different extracts in preparation for their exam. It builds up skills and independence. I used a carousel in groups to get them to look at extracts from:
Tess of the D'Urbervilles
Jane Eyre
Gone with the Wind
Portrait of a Lady

It leads up to an unseen question on how proposals can be difficult for both men and women in Dickens' 'Our Mutual Friend.'

This is an extremely detailed revision pack for AQA Pre-1900 poetry (A Level English Literature)
It represents many hours of work - my students really benefitted from this resource!

For each of the poems in the entire section of the anthology, there is a detailled grid discussing structure, meaning, imagery, language, and the overall effect (SMILE). It is useful if you are just starting to teach or to give to students to revise. I have also included grids to compare the poems thematically which can make any comparison work you need to do quite straight forward.

AQA A Level English Literature

This is a fun lesson which I did with high ability year 7 students on Alice in Wonderland.
The class did a WHOOSH- just give the students the character name and a copy of the script and they come up when their character appears and act it out.
There are then some creative writing activities based on the novel.
This is an A3 snakes and ladders game which I made for a high ability GCSE English Language class.
It includes all of the techniques they need (especially for the demands of English Language Paper 1).
They had great fun playing it and it is ready go go- just print and provide some dice!
I have also attached a glossary of key terms to go over before playing.
This is a full unit of work which I used for AQA Love through the Ages for teaching Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. It includes teaching activities, some unseen practice and lots of contextual information.

This is a double sided bookmark which I made for my KS3 students. It contains poetic techniques and definitions. It is a handy reference point for them to use when analysing poems and makes a nice present.
I just folded them in half and laminated them.
