Presentation introducing -ar verbs in the present tense in Spanish, containing lots of activities. Board game to practise use of these verbs, which can be laminated and worked on by groups of students. Game could be used to practise -ar verbs in any tense.
A revision sheet featuring a diagram which pupils can follow through to ensure they create past tenses correctly (selection of auxiliary, past participle, agreement). Used it for revision with year 10 who loved it.
A Word Document dealing with some simple phrases, with present subjunctive only, to allow students to include simple uses in own writing, coursework etc, with only limited knowledge of what the subjunctive is.
Pupils answer true/ false questions based on the map of France, then make up their own sentences based on a map of the UK. I have printed these in colour and laminated them as they are a quick starter with a whole range of groups/ topics.
Simple and fun introduction to farmyard animals and the noises they make. There is a game (see below). There is also a slide with the words to 'Old Macdonald had a farm'.
Towards the end there is a slide with all 5 animals on. You would play a game of 'Slaps' with 2 pupils trying to touch the correct animal as you say the word (name of animal or animal noise) or 'Beat the teacher' where you say the word as you point to the animal. If you say it correctly the pupils repeat, if you are incorrect they must stay silent. If they are totally silent they get a point, if anyone speaks, you get the point. I play 'Beat the teacher' all the time, even with KS4, and they love it!
A reading worksheet I created for students based on the town of Lille (because I lived there for a while) plus a PPT I use to give a quick presentation on the town to get them interested. The worksheet introduces vocab and has some comprehension questions, plus as exercise on position of adjectives.
Like the gameshow, pupils guess the price of the items (which are photos of clothes currently on sale at Carrefour) before it is revealed. Could use whiteboards or just orally/ in teams. There is also a basic description of the item and colour. Can be used to revise clothes and money.
A set of resources connected to buying tickets at a train station. These were designed to match the chapter on the train station in Metro 4, but could be used alone.
Pupils see a tiny section of a picture of a mode of transport and have to guess what it is. Good for revision starter or plenary. Pupils could write their answers on whiteboard or vote.
2 different sheets based on real info on what is in 2 department stores. Pupils read their own and answer some basic questions, before working with their partner to ask and answer a few questions.
This game introduces the conditional tense to students in the context of ideal job. Cut up the speech bubble sheet and give one set to each pair. Show the slides of the powerpoint one by one. Based on the powerpoint, students eliminate a candidate each round by turning that card over. The winning pair are the ones that end up with the correct candidate. This is challenging as it makes use of synonyms, but the pupils really enjoyed it!
A simple worksheet which shows pupils how much they can understand through cognates. I used it to boost their confidence before doing some extensive reading.
A grammar game for top sets. Pupils work in 2/3s. Shuffle the cards and put them upside down. In turn pupils turn over a card and either 1) read out the sentence putting verb into simple future or 2) invent a phrase of their own (if they get a 'Tricher' card). The others have to decide whether they are inventing it or not. Based on an idea somebody (sorry, can't remember who) suggested in a forum.
A crossword aimed at year 11s preparing for reading/ listening exams. It allows them to make links between words which are commonly used on GCSE papers The difficult version is actually very difficult so if you just want a quick starter I would do the version with the word bank with students of all levels.
An idea I had whilst doing the pub quiz! Pupils write their answers in random sqaures on the board, and you go through the answers in a random order. Just jazzes up a simple quiz/ vocab exercise. This one is on transport and matches the deja vu section in metro 4, but I'm sure the idea could be used in lots of circumstances to liven up tired classes!
A useful starter which increases awareness of synonyms and similar words. I use it to help prepare pupils for the reading/ listening exams. I have also uploaded a French one which is similar.
Description of different uses of por and para, followed by a brief exercise on use of both, and correction of the exercise, linking back to the specific uses. Aimed at high ability pupils.
A little plenary to do when you've taught them the rules of stress in Spanish and also how to use the tilde. They need to get through the maze crossing only words which have stress on penultimate syllable. They can&'t go diagonally. Takes approx 5 mins as a plenary.
