Evolution and Natural Selection game

(1)
Use this activity to model random mutations leading to biodiversity and then show how natural selection chooses the best adapted organisms for survival. The game consists of blank creature cards that students use to build features based on random mutations from dice rolls and 20 natural selection cards that choose which of the mutated creatures are fit to survive and which are destined for extinction. This is a 20-30 minute activity for 14 -15 years to reinforce evolutionary theory.

Designing Simple Electronic Circuits

(0)
Students design simple electronic circuits using challenge cards. Each card gives real world situations that can be solved with simple electronic circuits. There are 24 different challenge cards that describe a real world challenges and the input and output required - its up to the student to design the circuit. The resource includes printable component circuit cards that students can use to plan their design and a component reference sheet that describe how each component works and its symbol. The resource also includes a solution sheet for each challenge with a video link to a demonstration of each circuit. All challenges are solved with simple series or parallel circuits and use commonly available components such as batteries, bulbs, resistors, diodes, variable resistors, switches, LDR, LED, Buzzer, Thermistor, Multimeter and Motors. I have included details of component kits that can be assembled to allow students to construct the circuits they have designed.

Here are 20 element cards with completed electron orbits. The cards can be used for classification of elements by atomic structure and basic compound building. I have included a compounds game mat and simple instructions for a game where students create compounds and earn points. I have included both pdf and Word versions of the files so that you can edit as you see fit.

Print these cards and use them with students to model competition and create food chains, food webs and pyramids of numbers. The files consist of sufficient printable plant and animal cards to create simple woodland food webs and simple instructions for competitive game activities. The file also contains structure and adaptation cards to help students discover why organisms have structural features that assist survival.
