This is a colourful guide to the different textures studied at GCSE and A level for the listening exam.
Could also be simplified for younger students by removing excess slides.

I have created a 'how to play' guide for young musicians including instructions on reading the appropriate notation. Having tried the musical futures approach to learning by ear alot of students were quickly frustrated and put off by some instruments like guitar, so the idea is that they can use these independently. Ideally laminated and kept in practice rooms, or used in an topic booklet on instruments/performing perhaps. I did not create the artwork and therefore please do not use for profit making purposes.
PowerPoint and audio to study Pop in the 1960s including activities centred around composition.
How to compose a pop song for band line up and develop each part of the composition.
Lots of vocab and istening activities included.

Quick look (2 lessons) at the transition from Blues to 1960s pop - Rock n Roll!
The Ppt works with interactive whiteboard using the hyperlinked videos (downloaded seperately) or as a printed booklet for students. The bmp files are the band parts scored out for gtr, bass, drums, piano, lead and backing to demonstrate the musical features studied. The track should be made available for students to practice with. Recorded in the last lesson before xmas.
For this topic the emphasis was on performing, very much in the Musical Futures style of learning.
I looked at the development of Blues comparing features of early Delta Blues like Robert Johnson's 'Come in My Kitchen' with later Chicago Blues like John Lee Hooker's 'Boom Boom' and Muddy Waters' 'Hoochie Coochie Man'.
Lots of key vocabulary can be learnt and demonstrated through listening and performing the Blues that is the basis of the Popular music strand.
This Ppt can be used as a pupil booklet for studying Hip Hop, I have included most audio but the videos are too big (sorry-easily found on youtube)
videos: Uroy toasting, Kanye Heartless, grandmaster flash breakbeat demo
Activities and key vocab are included in the Ppt.
Hope this is helpful.
I've had to edit the Ppt a bit as the file was too big - should still be useful hopefully.
This is a composition activity centred around the pentatonic scale. Introducing drone, ostinati accompaniment, question and answer melodic phrasing, balanced phrases and rondo form. Each section should contrast experimenting with the elements of music.
Worked well for me as a whole class activity and then in pairs - marked against AQA criteria as a practice.
Here our results on NuMu (NewlandsRecords - GCSE 2012)
Hope this helps.
This is a colourful and basic course overview plus info on the areas of study and strands designed with hyperlinks to be used as an interactive powerpoint slideshow for students. Hope it is some use.
This is a guide to identifying modulations in the listening exam with a few hints and tips in the form of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. There are no audio examples, it is more about the process (so you always win!).
I got a little caried away when designing this one so I feel I should share it to justify the time. :-)
A3 size placemat to be printed and laminated for listening activities in preparation for the AQA listening exam, section A.
All the keywords are taken from the specification and/or past papers, excluding extranuous vocabulary.
Revision Powerpoint can be used as a pupil booklet or whiteboard resource. I've included some related audio and videos, youtube - bottleneck slide guitar and Take the long way home were too big to upload.
My Blues test with audio uploaded is on TES to go with this topic.
Hope this helps.
Guide Ppt can be used as a pupil booklet or on whiteboard. Some audio uploaded but videos are too big - can be found on youtube, demo's of native instruments synthesizer, garageband loops, how to sequence a track.
