This is a full year’s scheme of learning for GCSE textiles students. The scheme focuses on the theme of ‘Insects’ through exploration of artwork, artists and techniques.
This is a scheme of learning for a full year including lesson worksheets and printable resources. The scheme is suitable for GCSE or year 9 foundation students and focusses on skill building and knowledge generation. Students begin by understanding textiles formal elements such as creating texture, then move on to explore the work of artists and designers using a thematic approach to explore their work in relation to mould, decay and natural resources.
Students will:
produce textiles samples exploring texture and line
Research artists
Produce dye samples using natural and chemical dyes
produce a drawing sheet of related materials
culminate their learning in a finished final product exploring Japanese boro techniques
Options to explore the current wool 4 school project
This scheme of learning is suitable for KS3 art textiles and D&T students as a 12 week scheme which can easily be adapted to suit longer time frames.
Students will learn:
How to gather inspiration from a culture and use this respectfully within their work
How to be inspired by the work of others
How woven fabrics are constructed
How to design for a purpose
To create a final outcome of a weaving- this can be made as a standalone art piece or could be adapted to become a coin purse or pouch.
Please note that this project is intended to be completed using weaving looms but is also suitable for working on handmade simple cardboard looms.
