New AQA Biology notes

(122)
I have made some notes to go with the new year 12 AQA biology course at A level. There are a set of teacher notes that are completely filled in and an set of pupil notes with missing bits. I have made it as some pupils in my school want hand outs and some like to get notes from the board. I will try both approaches with the pupils, but the overall idea is that they can have both really as the notes will be on the computer system. I have split the course into 2 halves so that each teacher will deliver a portion as that's how our time tables are set up. The immunity section needs some work still, I have unanswered questions there that I am trying to research. There are a set of summary notes that go with this also.

Summary of the Unit 1, 2, 4 and 5 topics using past A level extended response questions. Aim to summarise their notes to the key points. A further adaptation of the extended response question resource I put on the TES previously, but it is the work I would like the kids to do with it, but that they do not always bother with

This document includes many extended repsonse answers, from past papers, for all topics covered in the A level AQA course. I use it with pupils after teaching a section of work, to show them what they can, in essence, summarise their notes to so they are focused on the key marking points. it is helpful to me also, prior to tecahing something, just to review the key ideas so I knwo what to draw attention to

The following booklet (over 100 pages!!!) is an independent resource that pupils can use as they move through the New AQA Combined GCSE Trilogy. In the booklet they are given weblinks to notes and videos and pictures and asked to complete questions on the topics covered in the specification. Towards the end of the booklet there are a series od evaluation questions and answers, there are extended response questions and sample answers, there are graphs to describe, there are factual recall questions.
This booklet is intended to be used as homework tasks, self learning, library lessons, and of course as we are often asked in our school, what can my child be doing to work for the GCSE, or when we are asked for additional resources or as a good way to cover ourselves and say pupils have plenty of things they can be doing to stretch themselves, as we teachers are always busy.

I print these slides double sided and get them laminated so the pupils can the move round the room trying different questions and checking their answers

I have tried to put together some activities for sampling (investigating populations) to include doing a transect and random sampling and then carrying out statistical analysis based on the reuslts and also some mock reuslts to perform statistical analysis too. However, I never studied ecology in my degree so i am interested in feedback on how to improve this document (which I am sure can be extensive). I have not found something like this on the tes and so I am putting it here hoping somebody may have somehting better that i can use.

This is a series of work sheets for the different topics (I have tried to be comprehensive here, cant claim that it is every single thing). The teacher version has complete sheets, the pupil version has missing sections the pupils can complete.
as it is word documents it can be altered as teachers see fit.
the huge volume of material meant that I was looking for a quicker way to move through the course. so we use things like GCSEpod (excellent if you haven't got it), maybe set a homework to prepare and then complete the sheet, do a few practicals and do a few past paper questions to apply the knowledge.
this includes evaluation questions for those common area like IVF, stem cells and GMOs.

This also includes some examples of extended response questions, it is created on word so it can be added to, altered and changed accordingly and as specifications change over time, and as we become more in tune with what they want we can alter it more specifically.

Here is a selection of resources for revision with classes. We know that factual recall can be the key to getting that grade 5. The problem is that there is so much to learn int he new GCSE. Answers are provided at the end of the document

here are some knowledge test to use in class as starters, summaries, or in revision lessons, or to set as homeworks. These are based mainly on the combined science course, but of course there is a big overlap with the separate course

here are some paper 1 and paper 2 review quizzes, these are designed to follow the specification quite closely so pupils work with the specification and learn it. The answers are provided. Again this could be split into homework questions, they make a nice easy review lesson (or nice cover work)
