A 100-minute lesson that explores the historical evidence that Jesus existed and goes on to explore what he might have been like through Bible stories.
A keywords multiple choice quiz to go with 'Religion and Life'. It is split into the same sections as the course. Hopefully it will enable pupils to identify their weak areas so that they can focus their revision appropriately. The second section is aimed at testing their understanding of what they have covered but contains nothing on 'Community Cohesion'. I am going to ask the pupils to come up with their own questions on this section. Answer sheet too.
This is accompanied by 5 information sheets about individual scientists and a worksheet to be photocopied onto A3 size. PP refers pupils to the textbook for one activity but there is a cloze alternative for LAPs.
Another 100 minute lesson (see also Homer Simpson the Heretic) aimed at keeping my hard to impress year 9s on track by covering concepts they will need in the GCSE. For a mixed ability class who will all be taking full-course GCSE. Writing task in pairs so that LAPs can be supported by more confident writers. You'll need access to the Simpsons episode.
This lesson is aimed to prepare year 9s for their GCSE work while keeping them engaged. They are all taking full course GCSE and are in mixed ability classes. It examines whether you need to go to church to be a good Christian through the Simpsons... (Our lessons are 100 minutes long.)
We have 100 minute lessons so this was designed as an enquiry for pupils to investigate Jewish food and write up their findings with an APP grid to help them. They can self-assess simply. For shorter lessons it could be split into two. I got a male teacher to read the David Apelbaum speech and videoed it to set up the enquiry. Pupils then worked their way around 6 tables with an activity on each (and eco-kashrut extension) making notes in their books as they went along. 'Dear Tina' assessment followed using APP grid.
We are using AQA Religious Studies B Religious Philosophy and Ultimate Questions. Put an activity on each of 7 tables and give each pupil a check sheet. When they have finished an activity I ask them to come and show me and I stamp their sheet. I set a limit of 5 pupils per table. You'll also need a few Bibles and textbooks. While they work their way around you can get on with some marking!
Year 10s have been studying reasons for belief in God so far, but I felt typhoon Haiyan needed to be discussed and provided a lead-in to the subject of natural disasters. The 'does suffering have any value&' sheet I got from somewhere else, so apologies if it was you! Our lessons are 100 minutes long, so please chop up as you see fit.
