This is the first double lesson in our UoL, when I introduce conversation analysis to Y12 students. It includes:<br />

<p>Lesson 1 and 2 of Media Messages: News and Online Media for new OCR spec. This delivers content/ includes activities on the economic context of the print sector, ownership models, Curran and Seaton theory, Harcup’s News values and agenda setting. It focuses on front pages of The Daily Mail and The Guardian.</p>
<p>I used this Powerpoint to deliver all of the LOs for unit 3 coursework, using the exam board resources and text book as guidance. I can’t attach all the resources I use to support the students because some are copyrighted. However, pretty much any of those resources can be found online. I have attached extra guidance and resources where possible and a booklet for the students to use for reference and planning.<br />
It offers two tasks, which are based on the suggested task from the exam board. They can create a documentary or a DPS. In retrospect, I’d probably ask the students that chose a print based task to also supply a cover page, as the documentary task is way more time consuming.<br />
There isn’t any guidance on technical skills, as we complete a skills based unit before starting this, where we introduce them to Indesign and iMovie.<br />
The checklist is there for the students to tick off all of the tasks before they finally hand in their folders.</p>

<p>Explores conventions of tabloids, broadsheets and mid-market tabloids; explores political affiliations of newspapers and includes Youtube video on ideology; touches on Barthes ‘Mythologies’ Theory; includes tasks for students to explore ideology represented on the front pages of The Daily mail and The Guardian.</p>
<p>Revises concepts from lesson 1-3 (news values and ideology)<br />
Introduces concepts of Representation. Activities and information on including Stuart Hall, Van Zoonen, Gilroy and bell hooks.</p>
<p>Continues work on print news. Develops application of representation theory, including Gauntlett. Links to Youtube videos by Mrs Fisher. Activities from the Hodder suggested lessons pack.</p>
