KS2 Maths activities for 'catch-up' groups

(0)

I have created a compilation of a variety of effective activities that I have used over many years with KS2 children who needed extra support for Maths. They enable the teacher/ tutor/ parent to observe how children work out their answers, how well concepts are understood and which key facts are in need of consolidation. The activities also act as ‘warm-up’ games and provide loads of enjoyable practice at manipulating number for all four rules. They can deepen understanding and speed up recall.

There is a strong focus on confidence building with mental Maths through playing games. Children are encouraged to articulate and compare their strategies, use known facts and record number sentences accurately.

At the start there are short sections summarising key knowledge and resources. As a supplement there is a selection of follow-me cards and a set of halves and doubles dominoes. The games just need simple resources such as playing cards or dice, counters and number grids.
