Sponsored by sustainable mobility specialist, Arval UK, ‘Independent Travellers’ is a KS3 PSHE lesson which aims to equip students with the knowlegde and skills they need to identify potential hazards and explain what they can do to help keep themselves safe as they travel independently.
The lesson aimed at years 7 and 8:
- Is aligned with the PSHE Association objectives for Health and Wellbeing and Relationships
- Promotes key themes from the UN Sustainable Development Goals and British Values
- Introduces brain development in young people and the process of good decision-making
- Provides opportunities for students to positively influence their peers
- Equips students with the transferable skills of identifying hazards and mitigating risk with control measures
- Includes bespoke animations created specifically for this lesson, with relevant and relatable content
- Includes a detailed lesson plan and PowerPoint with all media embedded (please click ‘enable external content’ once the PowerPoint has been downloaded).
The transition to secondary school can be daunting for both students and their families alike. Our hope is that this lesson empowers young people with the transferable knowledge and skills to safeguard their own personal safety and lays a good foundation for safe road practices.
