KS4 resources and analysis of ‘A Memory’ by Ted Hughes, a set text on the Cambridge IGCSE Literature in English syllabus 2023-2025. Alternatively, these resources could be used when teaching how to approach poetry for KS3 or KS5 as each of the tasks are differientated by corresponding to the levels of the bloom’s taxonomy pyramid.

The PDFs include:

  • a starter linked to to the themes in the poem,
  • questions to help the pupils summarise the poem,
  • a summary of the poem,
  • a blank storyboard for pupils to fill in with images and quotations that summarise the poem,
  • a colour-coded, comprehensive analysis of the poem: including comments on langauge, structure, context*, voice and tone, (*contextual comments are linked directly to the poem),
  • tips on how to make revision notes,
  • a revision grid template for pupils to complete, reminding them to make notes on language, structure, context, voice and tone. Also, reminding pupils to develop ideas by making shallow, deep and profound comments.
  • an exam style essay question,
  • a markscheme for teacher, self or/and peer assessment, includes questions to show pupils how they can move to the next band/level.
  • a creative, extension, task that links to the themes in the poem,
  • Blooms Taxonomy pyramid on each of the teaching slides showing which skill is being used.
