‘Tut in Murder Mystery’ – Newspaper Report - Talk for Writing Style English Unit (5 Weeks)

A 5 - week unit of work focussing on newspaper report writing(King Tut’s Death) Used in Year 4 but could easily be adapted for UKS2.

A detailed 4-week (24/25 lessons) unit in the style of T4W covering the Imitation, Innovation and Independent writing based on the newspaper report ‘Tut in Murder Mystery’. For each week there are resources (all labelled with what lesson), powerpoint slides so all can access, images and other resources needed. There is also a detailed plan for the whole unit.

Each day there are starters, inputs, differentiated activities and plenaries in the format of Powerpoint

The objectives covered in this unit are:
• The features of a newspaper
• Sentences and fragments
• Sentence clauses
• Conjunctions
• Run ons
• Identify the 5Ws and how to write a good 5W opening paragraph
• Direct and indirect (reported) speech
• Rhetorical questions

I thoroughly enjoyed teaching this unit. The children were engaged and happy to be learning especially as it was based on the Ancient Egyptians!
