-Archetypes, stereotypes and countertypes
-Ideology
-Verismilitude
-Selection and combination
-The construction of meaning
-Feminism, post-feminism and patriarchy
-Cultivation theory
-Beauty ideals/type
-Laura Mulvey’s Male Gaze and scopophillia
-Analysis of unseen texts
-Representation help slides

And an exploration, writing of and response peer task to the question below:

  1. (a) Explain how social context influences adverts. Refer to the advert for This Girl Can to support your points. [5]

(b) Compare the representation of women in the advert for This Girl Can and Protein World. [25]

In your answer, you must consider:

• the choices the producers have made about how to represent women

• how far the representation of women is similar in the two adverts

• how far the representation of women is different in the two adverts.
