This booklet includes:

  1. Writing techniques examiners reward
  2. A model piece of writing
  3. Breakdown of how it gains top marks
  4. Top tips
  5. 10 high definition picture prompts

I’ve put together this descriptive writing booklet, because it’s one of the most common tasks and it’s a real challenge for most students from 11+ to GCSE English.

It’s not difficult to guess why: descriptive writing isn’t really a thing. The dichotomy between narrative writing and descriptive writing is nonsense!

Some students and parents believe you can only write description, but you can include a little narrative in your writing and it’s really helpful.

Ultimately telling stories is an essential life skill, writing pointless descriptions isn’t.

Consequently the aim of this guide is to help students write short scenes focussing on setting the scene and creating atmosphere.

P.S I’ve marketed the ebook for 11+ exams but the advice applies up to GCSE English
