This resource takes a small description of the chopping down of a mighty tree and provides 20 written activities to chose from.
The variety has the benefit of allowing students to explore a text from various ‘angles’.
The tasks include imaginative writing as a prequel and epilogue to the text; argument; identification of simile and personification; imagined alternative scenarios; consideration of media angle; proverbs; memories, diary entries, monologues and much more.
To manage the resource read the text and then give your students a copy of the text and a copy of the 20 activities for them to pick and choose as they wish. Once they have completed one task they can select another. This freedom of choice of task often creates a better ‘feel’ to the student’s relationship to the work.
