Designed for use in Creative Arts (Visual Arts) , this poster encourages students to self-monitor their learning with attention to the Success Criteria and design requirements of their task, use of media and attention to detail, creative efforts, completion of tasks in a timely manner and general co-operation in the class setting. It can also be a useful resource to have on hand during a three-way conference (parent-student-teacher).
Please spend some time ‘unpacking’ the rubric with your students to clarify your expectations and theirs. For example, your understanding of ‘Craftsmanship’, is probably different to the students’ initial understanding - usually ‘colouring in between the lines’. It may not mean keeping to the ‘lines’ at all - without artistic innovators we would have no Picasso! When are the ‘lines’ (rules) are important? Enjoy those conversations with your student artists!
To further encourage your students to take ownership of their learning through self and peer assessment I recommend the T.A.L.K and L.E.A.R.N process
T.A.L.K and L.E.A.R.N posters and printable mnemonic bookmarks are available as a value bundle.
To develop an effective and manageable formative and summative assessment strategy, with assessment FOR, AS and OF learning, the
ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING bundle provides resources for creative teachers to support their students and keep assessment records on track.

A bundle is a package of resources grouped together to teach a particular topic, or a series of lessons, in one place.
T.A.L.K and L.E.A.R.N. Peer and Self Assessment Package
All the elements of the T.A.L.K. and L.E.A.R.N. process can be successfully adapted across the curriculum. Students are encouraged to use the lesson Learning Intentions and Success Criteria, to take ownership of their learning, to give meaningful feedback and feed forward and to treat each other with respect and kindness, fostering positive, healthy relationships. To encourage development of effective peer and self assessment skills, teachers should model the ‘TALK’ and ‘LEARN” approaches frequently with students. Teachers and students should also “mix it up” - students can TALK to themselves or LEARN with a peer. or make use of a rubric.
