Like a treasure hunt! The pupils have a worksheet full of algebra questions they have to answer. When they have answered them they have to find the answers around the classroom/corridor/school and write the corresponding symbol (it’s below the answer) in the next column (that way they can’t guess the words). When they have completed the symbols column then they can decode the message. I’ve put this on the IWB and time the pupils. I also give a prize for coming first, as long as all the answers are correct! I’ve laminated a set (6 cards on each page) so that i can use them again.
